The Quilt Shoppe of Summersville
Vickie Fleer has always been one of the biggest and most enthusiastic supporters of the West Virginia Quilt Festival. She sponsored us each year, and stored WVQI’s supplies from summer to summer. Generous as ever, she has agreed to sponsor our Quilt Festival one last time.
Visiting The Quilt Shoppe was always a wonderful and inspiring experience. This is one lady who was never too busy or too tired to stop and help customers with any problems they encountered, or who just needed help picking out the perfect fabrics to finish the project of the moment. I know we all appreciate her efforts on our behalf over the years.
WVQI wishes Vickie Fleer all the best in the years to come! Happy quilting, Vickie!

Documentation Project
You are invited to participate in the West Virginia Quilt Documentation to be held on the main floor each day of the Festival. The West Virginia Quilt Documentation Project gathers information on quilts that were made in or that currently “reside” in West Virginia.
If you would like to volunteer to help and learn about the process, please contact Roberta Gellner. If you have a quilt to be documented, make an appointment with Roberta, and a team of volunteers will measure, photograph, date, and identify the quilt pattern. It takes 30-40 minutes to have your quilt documented, and you can either stay and watch the process (highly recommended) or take in the quilt show (also highly recommended!)
Bring information and pictures of the quiltmaker, if available; “maker unknown” quilts are also welcomed. Data gathered will be stored in the WV Culture Center Archives, and will be uploaded to the Quilt Index (www.quiltindex.org). Information about quilt ownership will remain confidential.
Contact Roberta Gellner at 304.893.8324 or at [email protected]
Special Exhibit of twenty quilts: Southern Splendor
Mary Kerr is no stranger to the West Virginia Quilt Festival. She will be bringing the Southern Splendor exhibit to the Festival, as well as speaking at the Friday night meeting.
The American South has a rich quilting history, steeped in tradition and passed down through the generations. Mary worked with quilt historians, southern institutions, and private collectors to display some of the designs, colors, and patterns that are unique to the region. We hope you will enjoy this presentation of unique Southern quilts and celebrate those who have shared their time and talent.
Certified Appraisals
Mary Kerr is an American Quilter’s Society certified appraiser. A quilt appraiser is “expected to assign a value to a quilt determined by a variety of methods. These methods are based upon factual data gathered from consummated sales in the current market place.” AQS website
Mary offers both verbal and written appraisals. If you are unsure of which is better for your quilt and needs, don’t hesitate to contact Mary. 703.491.3295 or [email protected]
When you schedule a verbal appraisal with Mary, she meets with you about your quilt and shares her knowledge of the materials, techniques, and more information about your piece. Mary will tell you the value of your quilt; however, you will not receive a written document with your appraisal. A verbal appraisal is $25.
If you would prefer a written appraisal, Mary will meet with you about your quilt and gathers information about the piece. After your time with Mary, she researches information pertaining to your item, and prepares a document certified for sale, insurance, or donation purchases, which you will receive in the mail. A written appraisal is $75.
