Bag Making According to Laura
Laura Capozzi grew up in Salem WV. She is a retired science teacher and taught in Harrison County for over 39 years. She & her husband Angelo live in Bridgeport, WV. They have a small vegetable garden along with several perennial beds. Laura has over 100 different daylilies & grows heirloom tomatoes from seed every year.
Laura started sewing as a young girl & received her first sewing machine at age 5. She was making her school clothes by junior high. Sewing is in her genes. Laura’s mother has always sewn & is an excellent seamstress as was her grandmother & great grandmother. She began making quilts after she retired. Laura finds sewing very relaxing. She likes the challenge of working with new patterns & thinks it is important in keeping your mind active.
She first began teaching sewing classes when a local quilt shop owner asked her to teach a pajama class. Then the shop owner gave her a piece of fabric & said I love this fabric but I don’t know what to do with it. Laura cut it apart & made a large tote bag. She taught classes on making that bag. That was the beginning of bag making classes. Eventually she found ByAnnie patterns & has taught ByAnnie bag classes for about 8 years.
Most people think if you can sew, you can make anything. We know that there are many different skills required for each type of sewing. I hope the program today will inspire you to use your quilting skills in a new way. Along my bag making journey I have learned some important tips & techniques that make it easier to sew bags. Today in my presentation I hope to pass this information to you so that you feel comfortable trying out something new.
