Andi Perejda — Teacher, Lecturer & Judge

Andi Perejda is an award-winning quilt maker and NQA Certified Quilt Judge. She began quilting in 1991 and her enthusiasm for quilting continues to grow. Quilt-making is Andi’s passion and her quilts have been shown nationally and internationally over the past two decades.
mmShe is known for her hand quilting and hand applique, however her interests are not limited to these. Her interest is in all facets of quilt making. She is currently active in two fiberart groups in California, Fibervisions and Cutting Edge, and is a member of Studio Art Quilt Associates. Her work has been in gallery and museum shows over the past few years.
mmAndi earned her NQA judge’s certification in 2003 and is also a Master Quilt Judge. She completed two terms as Education Chairman of the NQA Board of Directors. She has judged quilt competitions in a number of states, including Pennsylvania, Ohio, North Carolina, Indiana, Michigan, Texas, Nevada, Wyoming, Arizona, Colorado, Oregon and California.

Using Andi’s quilts as examples learn about a variety of quilting motifs and possible ways to use them.

Basic needle-turn hand applique stitch is taught while working on a stress-free heart design. Learn how to handle innies and outies!

Never wonder how to make stems or branches again! Students will learn several ways to create appliqued stems and branches to enhance their applique. Knowledge of needle-turn applique technique will be assumed. No project involved.

Applique your own Dogwood using Andi’s pattern. Learn to paint white flower petals and embellish with beads, ruching and other techniques.

Sue Papouschek — Featured WV Teacher
Class: It’s Fun When It Works:
Machine Piecing Techniques
Thursday, June 19, 1–4pm
$45 ($35 WV Quilters, Inc. members)
This is a half-day class on machine piecing techniques. This class is perfect for the experienced beginner who would like to stretch their skills a bit.
Sue has been sewing for 39 years but got the “quilting bug” about 15 years ago when she attended a paper piecing class.
mmHer “creative outlet” became a full time business about five years ago when she started “Willow Creek Quilting.” She does free motion, custom and edge-to-edge quilting and is a registered longarm quilter for the Quilts of Valor veterans program in WV.
mmShe has been teaching various classes at Jackson’s Mill Retreat for three years, at her two quilt guilds, “Pins and Needles” and “Thimbles and Threads,” and in area shops. Sue is happy to share her excitement for quilting and loves to see quilters grasp concepts and take home beautiful quilts. Sue and Kent, her husband of 25 years, reside in Smithville, WV, and have three grown children.

Mary Kerr — Teacher, Lecturer & Appraiser
Class: Hankies From Heaven
A Quilted Pillow
Friday, June 20, 9am–12pm
$45 ($35 WV Quilters, Inc. members)

This fast paced 3-4 hour workshop teaches a quick and easy way to show-case a treasured handkerchief. Participants will create a quilted pillow using their own handkerchief, threadwork and a recycled shirt.

*** Supply list includes basic sewing supplies, half-yard of a coordinating solid cotton fabric, a variety of threads to match and a cotton button front shirt. Finished sizes will vary. Pillow forms to be purchased later by each participant.

“Yes You Can Machine Quilt
Your Vintage”

A trunk show and lecture focusing on the pros and cons of finishing those treasured pieces from yesteryear. Mary will share numerous examples of both vintage and new compilation pieces that incorporate unfinished blocks, tops and pieces.

* Mary will also be doing Appraisals at the Festival.
Mary is an American Quilt Society certified appraiser and an award winning quilter. She grew up in a family of quilters and has been teaching since 1987. She currently lectures and conducts workshops that focus on quilt history and the preservation of antique textiles.
mmIn addition, Mary is the owner of Pieced of Olde, a small business that specializes in restoration and repair of antique textiles. She and her husband Ralph live outside of Washington DC.
mmShe is an active member of the Professional Appraisers Association for Quilters Textiles (PAAQT), the American Quilt Study Group (AQSG), American Quilters Society, Cabin Branch Quilters, Quilters Unlimited, Mason Dixon Quilters Professional Network (MDQPN), the Virginia Quilt Consortium, the Quilt Professionals Network, and several quilt-dating groups in her area.

Seven of the region’s finest teachers will be giving demonstrations on a variety of techniques. You’ll have the opportunity to attend a presentation for 15 minutes and then move on to the next teacher until you’ve been to all seven. You’ll also receive a booklet with a one page handout from each teacher.
