Presented by Roberta Farmer
mmRoberta was born and reared in Wyoming County, WV, and she remembers a childhood with quilts on every bed. Her interest in becoming a quilt maker was rekindled when her family returned to live in WV in l973 and she discovered Cedar Lakes. They settled in Charleston and she was excited to experience the revival of quilting in the US.
mmShe became a charter member of the Kanawha Valley Quilters' Guild and began teaching the art of quilt making in community education and local church groups. It has been her joy to teach for Cedar Lakes in the Elderhostel Program for 27 years. She has met students from many states and Canada. She has exhibited her quilts in local and state shows, NQA, AQS, Mountain State Arts and Craft Show, and Bob Evans Farm Show. She has entertained many guild and organi-zations with historical presentations about women and their quilts. Her most memorable experience was being an area coordina-tor for the WV Quilt Search and recording the “silent history” of WV quilters and quilts.

* All of the special events above are free of charge.
Spotlight Guild: WV Quilters, Inc. is pleased to feature the Mountain Lake Quilters of Summersville.

There will be a quilting frame set up for a hands-on hand quilting demonstration. If you would like to sit and hand quilt, please bring your favorite thimble. If you don’t know how to quilt, Joni Hoffman will be happy to teach you!

And, of course, there will be puzzles and blocks to work on when you need to sit a spell.

Meals: Lunch and dinner will be available for purchase during the festival, prepared by The Celtic Cook.

We have scheduled two catered dinners. Please see the Class/Dinner Registration Form to register for these dinners.

Thursday 6pm Dinner $28
Friday 6pm Dinner $28

These dinners precede the free lectures. The food is scrumptious and the fellowship is wonderful!
Thursday Night Challenge
At the Thursday night dinner of the 2013 WVQ Festival, 43 adventurous souls signed up for the 2014 Thursday Night Challenge. The theme for 2014 is "Chiefie's Scavenger Hunt". Participants were given a list of 30 items that could be on their quilt. Rule #6 states that you must include at least 5 items from the Scavenger Hunt list. What was inadvertently left off of the rule list is that YOU MUST INCLUDE ITEM #30----A Chief. (For some “Chief" possibilities, see the full scavenger hunt list.) Joni will e-mail the list to each person who signed up for the Challenge. If you don't receive this by the end of January, please e-mail her: jhoffmanwv@gmail.com, and she will send you a copy.
mmSo warm up those needles, and get your creative juices flowing. The Chief and Joni have so far bought more than $400 worth of merchandise, and they haven't even started collecting the Fat Quarters yet! With so many quilts expected, we would greatly appreciate it if you mailed your entry to: Joni Hoffman, HC 71, Box 460, Duck, WV 25063 to arrive between 12th - 17th June 2014, or deliver in person to the Festival Tuesday, 20th June. This will give The Chief time to get all entries hung in the hallway between the main auditorium and the dining room so people will have plenty of time to view and vote for their favorite. And remember, each person who includes all 30 items on their little quilt will receive a prize!
mmPlease join us in this fun! If you would like to participate by bringing a challenge, just contact Joni to get the scavenger list for this year’s challenge. You never know! You might win the awesome basket full of fat quarters and other goodies! Joni Hoffman at jhoffmanwv@gmail.com
Written appraisals are necessary for insurance coverage of antique and contemporary quilted textiles. Verbal appraisals provide a setting in which members can learn about their antique quilts and how to care for them.

Advance reservations are necessary to guarantee an appointment for your quilt. Additional quilts can be seen on a walk-in basis during the show. Please see the registration table in the lobby.
